The monastery is consecrated to Holy Martyr Gorazd, the first orthodox bishop of Czech Lands since 9th century, which died by martyrdom in 1942 during world war II. The monastery was founded in 1989 in the birth place of this great saint and new-martyr. It is located in a picturesque village of Hrubá Vrbka between the hills of White Carpathians, just few kilometres away from the border between Czech Republic and Slovakia. At the present time, three monks live here and, in every day prayer and service for God, they take trouble for revival and preservation of the Orthodox faith and tradition, which has been brought here, to the Land of Moravia, more that thousand years ago, from the Byzantine Empire by Holy brothers Cyril and Method, “Apostles of Slaves”. Now, with the help of God, we try to get this humble monastery to be a place of quietness and spiritual refreshment for everybody - for pilgrims or just for occasional visitors…
